Shock and Sadnesd

When the news broke about Matt Layer yesterday It totally shocked me. I was devastated and sad all day. I watch Matt and Savannah every day and love them. I felt terrible for Matt's wife and family as well as Matt. As the story has unfolded I am becoming so furious and appalled at what seems to be an insidious pattern of behavior among men of power!! I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg and feel pretty sure a lot of men who have gotten away with this behavior are quite worried!!..... Moving on...plan to do some Christmas shopping today....later

No News

Quiet day yesterday. I grocery shopped and did this and that around here.  Nothing much today except gym time for me. Tomorrow I'll head to Knoxville to do some Christmas shopping. I still haven't taken down and put fall decor away. Christmas decor coming on Saturday so I have to get a move on!!....later

Gatlinburg Today

What a difference a year makes! Last year on this day Gatlinburg and the Smokies were on fire. We had had a hot, dry summer. High winds led to the devastation. Many homes and businesses lost the fight. Today it is a different story... New building and the resilience of the people in East Tennessee have responded in a big way. I DAT here in my safe home unbelieving what was happening just a few miles from us. Several lives were lost but the friends we have who live there were safe. ....Today I'll be heading out to shop for groceries. It's cold here but will be nice later. So far we're having a lovely fall!.....later

Coaching Search

Yesterday it appeared Tennessee was close to signing a new coach hut Curry's choice of Shiano quickly had fans and state leaders in an uproar. Shiano had been at Penn State and may have covered up for Sandusky. This morning Shiano is off the list.  He really sounded very qualified but you can't hire someone that controversial. ....I'm slow at putting my fall decor away but will get to it soon, probably tomorrow. It was a lazy weekend and I'm having trouble shifting gears. Back to the gym after lunch....later

Day of Relaxation

I plan to be lazy and do very little today!
Yesterday was a good day with friends and catching up with them after their trip to Cuba. The new pie I made was delicious but very rich. I gave the guys a large piece and Tommie and I little pieces. None of us could finish our portions. Soon I'm going to cut myself a small piece of pumpkin pie to enjoy with my coffee. ...I think we finally found someone who will deliver us firewood. Tommie did a search and found someone. We called and hell deliver tomorrow! Thanks, Tommie... Anxious today to see pictures Muir will post when she and Jimmy get their two, new pups!!😁😁.....later

Charlie Rose!! These men with power are coming out of the woodwork and I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg! Women have spoken! They've gotten away with it for so long but times have finally changed!......Cleaning day today and tomorrow I'll start Thanksgiving preparations. Sunny but cold down here....later

Quiet Weekend

We started off the weekend with lunch and the movie, Victoria and Abdul. I also popped into Home Goods but really didn't have enough time to spend there so 2ill be going back after Thanksgiving to check it out more thoroughly. Saturday was filled with football. Most of our teams had easy wins. Yesterday started out quite chilly and today is downright cold but warming up later. It was a perfect night for Chilli so I made that and cornbread. Laundry today and tomorrow preparations for Thanksgiving begin. Mostly just cleaning tomorrow but will do a few other chores. I got a super message from a former student on Facebook. He thanked me and said I had made a huge difference in his life. This was one of my favorite students and I knew he had great potential. Always nice to hear...one of my students ended up in prison so I welcomed that positive message!!.....later

Today

I'll be heading out to Kroger's when it gets light to finish my Thanksgiving shopping. Later well head to Knoxville to see Victoria and Abdul and also lunch. Yesterday, with the help of Tabatha and Ruthie, I got the deck cleaned and ready for winter. It's cold this morning so I'll take my car because of its seat and steering wheel warmers. A rainy weekend ahead. LSU in for the game with the Vols tomorrow. It will likely be another loss for the Vols. I'm hoping we'll have a new coach soon. The hunt is on!...later

Busy Day

Today I'll be finishing winterizing my deck. We'll also head out this morning to pick up bird seed at the Farmer's Co-Op. It's supposed to be a nice day and it's starting out fairly mild. I think I'll finish my Thanksgiving shopping tomorrow morning. ...Happy to see Jimmy started with his new doctor and had the infusion yesterday. Fingers crossed that he has no adverse reaction. I'm also hoping they get their new pups soon!!...More coffee time....later

Outdoor Work

In the next few days I need to finish winterizing the deck. Saturday it's supposed to rain so I want to get it done before a hen and the next few days should be mild.  I'm also thinking of finishing my Thanksgiving shopping on Friday. I bought my turkey yesterday. That will give me Monday and Tuesday to clean house and I'll make pies on Wednesday as well as a few other sides. To me..sides are the best part of the Thanksgiving meal. I could do without the turkey! I do enjoy a turkey sandwich on the day after.... Later

Sunshine...Come On!!

Yesterday was SO gloomy. I'm hoping for a brighter day today but I'm looking at weather on TV now and it doesn't look too promising. I need to go out later and replenish my wine. I'll be making French Onion Soup for dinner. Thank goodness for a food processor! I'd hate to have to slice that many onions by hand! I'll need to call my leaf guy and get on his list. They are coming down fast this year. I'm always happy when they get done before Christmas. Time for more coffee....later

Today's Plans

The laundry in underway and I'll be heading to the gym after lunch. I'm starting to plan for my Thanksgiving feast but hard to get excited when sadly, it will be just for the two of us. I will do the traditional dishes with a few additions. In addition to pumpkin pie I'll be making an Apple caramel pie. Oh dear!! Whiskers was busy while we slept. There us a dead mouse with its head stuck in the register cover in my bathroom. I'll let Richard take care if that when he wakes up!!....later

Cold but Sunny

Finally we'll be taking that drive into the mountains and hoping to see some pretty leaves. This has been a pretty lazy week around here. I'm starting to think about Thanksgiving and my menu. I'll be doing the usual with one exception. Richard always wants pumpkin pies but we were watching The Chew last week and saw an apple caramel pie so I'll be making that along with a pumpkin. Usually Richard wants a huge turkey but he said a 12 pounder would be just fine. I was shocked to hear him say that! Time for another cup of coffee....later

Another Gloomy Day

No sun and drizzle yesterday with much of the same today, but wait!! Sunshine to come tomorrow and we'll take a drive to the mountains. Today I'm going to wash all of the bedding and put the flannel sheets on and bring the down comforter. I'll look forward to bed tnught, for sure! We haven't had a fire yet but I'll plan to do that tomorrow night. That will be my day. I made potato soup last night..yum!....later

Boom!!

That's what woke me up at 5:20 this morning. We're getting a lot of rain now with intermittent thunder and lighting. It actually sounds nice..no wind so the awning is opened. It will bring lots of leaves down today. No plans for today so I'll just enjoy this rainy day. Crucial voting in Virginia today. I hope the democrats turn out in large numbers!!!....later

Strange Weekend

Time change doesn't usually affect me one way or another. I generally like the change but this year was different. I chose to sleep in the guest room Saturday night because Richard had been getting up around 3 which disturbed my sleep so that I couldn't fall back asleep. Sunday morning I was awakeby 3 but stayed in bed until four. I was tired all day and actually went to bed at 9:30 and went to sleep immediately... Football Saturday was a mixed bag for us. Wins for Tennessee, Clemson, Auburn and WVa while Tech and OSU lost. ..Today Richard has a dentist appointment and we finally found firewood and may get a delivery today. This guts delivers and stacks for $65. a rick. Rain due any minute. We have to get to the mountains in the next few days. Finally the trees are cooperating and are full of the beautiful fall colors but are expected to drop especially quickly.....later

Rain Expected

It's raining hard in Knoxville but so far we are dry. It's likely waiting for me to get on the road. Richard has an appointment this morning so I'll drop him off and run to Kroger's and then to Walgreen's to pick up prescriptions. It is warm here. Trump leaving for Asian trip likely offending more people with his tweets and bleeps. Happy fun weekend to Muir and Jimmy as they spend the weekend with Maggie, Charlie and Eva....later

Productive Wednesday...

I got a lot done yesterday but the biggie was defrosting my freezer. It really isn't that big of a job. It's just one of those that I hate doing. I usually find some surprises in there...items that get shoved to the back and forgotten about. I did find a few unlabeled items. Anyway, it looks so good now. I also washed and changed our sheets. I had thought it was time for the flannel sheets and down comforter but the weather told me otherwise as we're expecting the 70s for the next week. Today's plans...putting Halloween away for another. That's no big deal. If the sun comes out and is nice I'll take a walk. I made a tortellini soup yesterday so may have that again for dinner....later

Another Nice Day!

I got a lot of little jobs done yesterday but today I have a bigger job which I'm not fond of doing....defrosting my downstairs freezer. The biggest job is taking everything out of it and putting everything in coolers or into my other freezers. Then it's just the waiting game. I'll also be putting my Halloween decorations away but leaving things up that are really just fall decor. Yesterday was a beautiful day and the rest of the week looks nice as well. Started watching the Poldark episode we had dvr'd and decided we didn't like it so deleted it. Watched Shaw on Kimmel instead..good.....later
