Cheyenne, etc.

We finally got her settled. She was having difficulty with the dog pillow. I went downstairs and got the cushion off the den couch and covered it with plastic and then a sheet. It is soft but more stable so works better for her. We had her out several times, but she just pees on the sheet. I washed sheets 4 times yesterday. We just had her out on the deck and she drank from her favorite bowl. The biggest problem...she won't eat. I made broth, I made an egg, I tried to give her some ground beef...no success. She doesn't want to open her mouth. Giving her her pills is no picnic either. I forced her mouth open this morning to put some egg in and she spit it out. She will drink water. If she isn't eating by tomorrow we'll have to take her back to the vets. An update on her owners...I talked to Cameron yesterday and she said she would be up in the afternoon after she ran some errands. I also asked her if one of the girls would stay with her while we went to the play this afternoon. Guess what? No one showed up and we were up past 11. R. actually stayed up longer to be with her and he got up at 4 to check on her. What losers!!!
And...it's snowing..a very fine snow that is sticking. It's supposed to warm up with sunshine later........later....

She's Home

She is home and zonked!! She's still out from the surgery for the dislocated hip. We put her down on the big pillow and she hasn't moved. I want to try and give her something to eat but I'll wait until I see some movement. They completely shaved her tail and back end and she looks so pathetic. I'm not sure if I'll take that picture. ....later....

New Frig

Here it is and I love it. Also regarding Cheyenne...the x-ray showed a hip out of joint so they sedated her yesterday and she is in a sling of sorts. I just called and she is better this morning so we are going to get her soon. She is on meds for pain, etc. So far she is drinking but not eating. I'll make her an eggbeaters when she gets home. I have her big pillow all set for her in the great room and I'll put another pillow by the front door where she loves to look out. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend. I'm worried about leaving her tomorrow when we go to the play. We're meeting Jim and Tommie in Knoxville to see "Charlie's Aunt". We were going to dinner afterward, but maybe we'll just come back here and pick up something....later.....

Update Cheyenne

She still wasn't moving her rear legs yesterday afternoon so stayed at the vets where he is treating her with steroids in hope that it will stimulate movement. Keep your fingers crossed on this one because if she can't move her legs she will have to be put down. I don't even want to think of this. The kids next door came up last night to ask about her. I'll call later this morning to get an update. My new refrigerator is being delivered today...can't wait....later....

Taker Dog

Yesterday when we got home from the gym Cheyenne ran up to be let in and fed. I loved on her a bit and then fed her. She lay down by the door for awhile and then saw something down at her other house and ran to me to let her out. R. and I were watching tv and I had started dinner when Kayla came rushing in our house to say they needed us and that her mom had run over Ch eyenne and she was bleeding from the mouth. I called our vet and R. got in the car and I ran down to their house. I told them to get a blanket and between them and R. they rolled her onto the blanket and we took off. We put her in the front seat and I got in the back and just kept petting her. Her jaw is broken, but not so bad that she can't eat. Anyway, he checked her out and treated her for shock and started an IV. I called this morning and he said he thinks she'll make it. They covered her with a blanket last night and this morning she was able to get herself up and move around. When I talked to Dr. Hall she was curled up on top of her blanket and they were going to feed her. They want to keep her at least through the day and they will keep her on IVs. It snowed here a bit this morning. R. is headed for the dentist to have his crown put in. Now for American Idol...I really do love Ellen, but I don't think she is really cut out for this job. She doesn't know enough about the technicalities of music. While I was thinking this on Tuesday, I didn't want to say it out loud because I like Ellen so much. However, when Anne and Madison said this to me I agreed. That being said, maybe as time progresses she'll improve....later.....

Morning Vs. Night

I used to be a morning person, and although I still get up early, I really don't like mornings that much. My favorite time of day starts about 4 when we get home from the gym and settle down to watch tv/read/do puzzles/eat dinner, etc. In the morning I get up early and have the house to myself, which I like. I don't like to be bothered with anyone else. Thankfully, R. doesn't get up until around 9 and by then I'm over my alone time. I guess I'm not much of a night person because I'm usually in bed around 10. Getting a massage today and starting a new book. We ;may get a bit of snow, but mostly the mountains are going to get it and probably not us....later....

Giver vs. Taker

Please don't get me wrong. I love Cheyenne and am committed to caring for her, but I'm really not used to having just a taker dog. All of our other dogs liked to snuggle, get in bed with us and be comforted as well as comfort. Cheyenne comes in when it is cold or wet or when she is hungry. She never gets on our lap or in bed with us. If it is stormy she goes down to the dark den to be alone. She didn't come in again last night even though we looked for her on and off until we gave up and went to bed. This morning it had rained but no sign of her. Finally about 9 I saw her wending her way up our driveway and when I opened the door for her she came in. I dried her off and she then jumped up on the couch. Later she wanted out again, but I closed the gate and she came back in. I'm going to keep her in because it is cold and rainy. Wolf used to talk to me and want me to get down on the floor with him and scratch his belly. He was too big to get in our chairs with us, but he did get in bed with us. I guess I didn't realize how independent she was because I had another dog to care for. Anyway, I just wish she were more of a giver, but she isn't going to change after 18 + years of being on her own......later.....

Rainy Monday

It was supposed to start raining early this morning, but it rained through the night and when I got up it had passed on. We have some sun now with a fairly warm day...in the 50s but getting much colder tomorrow. Yesterday was just lovely. I know spring will be along soon. I need to stop by the library today to return books and renew 2 that I didn't get to. We had a nice dinner last night with Linda and enjoyed seeing the USA win at hockey. I would have been fine if Canada had one...that's my second favorite country. R. says if Sarah Palin every becomes president we will be moving to Canada!.....later.....

Another Day of Warmness

We have out heat off and the door open. Yesterday I cleaned the birdseed off the deck so it, at least, looks decent. I'm having Linda over for dinner this evening. Her husband is out of town. I have the onion soup made except for the last minute under the broiler and the scallops with their topping are ready for the oven. I'm having an arugula salad with butternut squash and cranberries which have been roasted. The dressing is an apple cider vinigrette. I had a half cake in the freezer so I just made the topping for it. R. is about to vacuum and after I clean the kitchen I'll shower and then read/watch olympics. I'm excited for the hockey game tonight and I know Linda will want to watch as well. I'll enjoy this sunshine today because tomorrow rain returns and cooler temps.....later.....

Oh Happy Day!

Nothing like the sun to cheer one up, especially when it has been absent for so long! Got to 52 yesterday with an even warmer outlook for today. I left before 8 to go to Kroger's and this afternoon I will be trimming shrubs and cleaning out flower beds as well as cleaning up bird seed. I think I'll send R. out to the carwash to get one of the cars cleaned inside and out. I was pleased to hear Tiger yesterday and hope he will follow through on all he needs to do. Now for the Russians....can't you just accept something gracefully? I guess not.R. got bored with the ice dancing last night and there wasn't much else on. We went to bed early. Lots to do today..and my bulbs are coming up. Last year at this time we had daffodils blooming and forsythia in bloom. Everything will be late this year, but that's okay. .....later.....

Found Our New Refrigerator

Best Buy had the best prices although H.H. Gregg was good also. They had some great prices on dented ones. We have a small kitchen and this will take up more space, but it will be worth it. I can't wait. I loved watching USA win a gold for figure skating. A great night for watching. Here are some of the evil squirrels who eat our bird seed!! Richard dubbed him "Demon Squirrel".

Refrigirator shopping

Our old frig in the basement is 38 years old but has been a great one and we must have a 2nd frig. It gave out yesterday and R. has been on line trying to find the best buy. Best Buy has the best prices and the next hardest thing is finding one that fits our space. We definitely want a 3 door with bottom freezer and ice and water in the door. The problem is the height. I think we found one and we'll be going to Knoxville to check it out. Our present one will go in the basement. Other than that...watching the Olympics and cheering USA.....later.....

A Morning Fire in the Fireplace

Yesterday I told R. I hated the morning because it is cold and dark when I get up and it depresses me. He suggested I throw a fire log in the fireplace to warm things up. That is exactly what I did this morning and also lit some candles. It helped a lot. I watched Today, did a puzzle while I ate breakfast and then read a bit of my latest book. A much better start to the morning. It is actually supposed to be about 52 on Sunday, but for today another cold one not getting above the 30s. Cheyenne was in and out yesterday, but mostly in. This morning she wanted out soon after I got up and is still out. I'll get her in before we leave for the gym. Now I'll read a bit. R. is working on our taxes.....later....

Home Safely

Anne and the kids got home safely with roads fine through Lexington. North of Lexington they got snowy, but not too bad. In Cincy things got bad but by then they were only about 3 miles from home. They got stuck in their driveway because they had over a foot of snow there. When Anne called me she was getting ready to go out and shovel. It snowed here a bit last night and again this morning, but nothing more than a dusting but cold. Today I did laundry and remade the beds after doing the sheets and towels yesterday. R. is going to Walmart soon to pick up bird seed and tax stuff. We'll be going to the gym this afternoon. Last night we flipped between the Olympics and Westminister Dog Show. We'll watch both again tonight.....later.....

Winter...Yuk!!

I really should not complain, but I'm going to anyway. It was snowing when I woke up and we got some...not even an inch, but north is bad and Anne and the kids are needing to get home and Cincy is supposed to get hit hard. She wants to get through the mountains before it starts again. We went to the movies yesterday and R. and I really liked it. It was a good adventure. Anne, Madison and Max were disappointed because they had read the book and the movie was so different from the book. Okay, I just talked to Muir and Cincy is getting it and Anne wants to get through Jellico before it starts again down here. .....later....

Happy Valentine's Day

My honey got me certificates for 2 massages and I got him a jazz CD. Today we'll be going to see The Lightning Thief. Yesterday we took the kids to the gym for family swim and came home to watch Olympics. We may get a bit of snow tonight. I'll be watching because Anne and kids leaving for Cincy tomorrow afternoon. Here are some pictures from this weekend...Maizy with her chewy, Madison hiding and Max before getting dressed.....later.....

Kids Arrived

They got in about 8:30 and we stayed up too late. Not sure what we'll do today...probably go to the gym for family swim and Madison wants to watch 1776 tonight. Tomorrow we'll go see The Lightning Thief. Watched Olympics last night and hope to watch some of that today.....later...Oh, and my other blog buddies are so lame..especially Muir!!

Can't Wait to See the Kids

Max gets out of school at 4 and they'll leave from there so should be here around 8:30. Today I'm cleaning house and then to the gym this afternoon. I have a mystery to solve...we have a bird feeder with 2 slots on either side for suet. A few weeks ago I put new suet in the slots and 2 days later it was gone and I couldn't figure out where it went. This morning I was talking to Maggie on the phone and looked on the deck and there was a suet block out of its slot on the feeder and laying on the deck rain. The squirrels don't even eat the suet and I'm thinking it must be a raccoon. The other suet was gone and I just filled them 2 days ago. Also, I don't think a squirrel could get it out of the cage thing. It had to have happened after dark last night and squirrels are up in their tree nests by then. I've never seen raccoons around here. Oh well....another cold day with a winter storm to our south and since we are in the foothills we may get a bit of that storm. .....later....

Just Cold

We got another dusting of snow during the night and it's cold. The normal temp for this time of year here is 50. I would so love to see 50 or even 40. R. going to the store this morning for most of what we need when the kids come down on Friday. I'll stop at Kroger's for the things we can't get at Walmart. That's about the extent of my exciting morning. I cleaned my bathroom and the upstairs yesterday. Will do the rest of the house tomorrow. I don't know about the roads north of here into Kentucky, but I-75 is clear as far as I know in Tennessee. I shouldn't complain because we haven't had to deal with snow. ......later...

Surprise, surprise...

I would take a picture, but I can't find my camera. We weren't really supposed to get anything, but when I woke up we had a dusting. It started to snow again about 8 and it continues and is laying. I guess the roads are getting slippery. Now, to yesterday...we ate lunch at Olive Garden and then went to see Crazy Heart. It is really good and I highly recommend it. The whole cast was excellent and good music. I came home and finished Blind Man's Bluff..a really good Faye Kellerman mystery. Now I'm on to a new author who writes mysteries with dogs in them. I love this quote ..."Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." Groucho Marx. Lee Charles Kelley is the author of Dogged Pursuit. In real life he is a dog trainer and has a 14 year old Dalmation, but in his books his dog is a Springer spaniel. I discovered this author when one of the librarians turned me on to the mystery web site and from there I typed in dogs and got 4 pages of mysteries with dogs. So far I've been happy with my selections. Have fun in the snow everyone!.....later....

Crazy Heart

We're going to Knoxville to lunch and then to see Crazy Heart. It just started to rain here and is supposed to keep that up on and off until this evening when it will get colder and turn to snow. I don't think we're going to get much. Cheyenne came up this morning from downstairs and went outside to get a drink (she only drinks inside if she can't get out). She then went to the yard and looked toward the heavens sniffing and sniffing. She knew rain was coming so she came back inside and went back downstairs. She'll stay there most of the day. I'll comment on the movie tomorrow....later....

Happy for the Saints

I didn't think they were going to win and I liked both teams, but in the end I'm happy for the Saints. Another cold and dreary Monday with more dreariness predicted with a wintry mix for tonight and tomorrow. Maybe we'll go see Crazy Heart tomorrow. Happy Birthday to Jim...42! later.....

Super Bowl Sunday

We are both conflicted. We love Peyton and kind of want them to win, but also like the Saints and they have never won. Whoever wins we will be okay with that. I can't remember when I liked both teams and wanted them both to win. I'll be making appetizers to snack on during the game instead of a meal. I'm making spinach/artichoke dip, veggies and kielbasa in pastry plus the usual cheese. Today we have no rain but no sunshine so far. More rain expected by Wednesday. I'm hoping to get some sun to dry off the deck so I can vacuum off the birdseed before Maizy comes down. Watched the HBO program last night about the girl (a grown woman now) with autism. It was very good! Go Saints...Go Colts!!!.....later....

Tennessee Winter

I shouldn't complain...we have no snow and I'm thinking all of the kids must have it except, maybe Maggie. I guess the Virginia ones have it the worst. Here we have the usual dreariness with on and off rain. We'll be leaving soon to have lunch and then go to Sherwin Williams to talk about our kitchen cabinets. I have forwarded the "Deer Story". Let me know if you did or did not get it. It is so amazing! Thank you, Jerry. Started a new book this morning...Blind Man's Bluff by Faye Kellerman. I was surprised to find it on the shelf at the library. The computer said all copies were checked out. I love Faye, but not as fond of her husband, Jonathan....later...

Rain and More Rain

It rained all night and is supposed to rain most of the day. At least it's not snow. I'm about to leave for my appointment. I just checked Muir's blog to see if they had snow yet. Looks like it will come later. Jerry also hasn't blogged yet, but Pa. should get a lot of the white stuff. I need to get a few things at Kroger's for this weekend.....later....

Cleaning Up Recipes

Just finished going through the recipes I print from the food network and the ones I clip out of magazines, etc. I have 2 over sized notebooks with recipes and I had been neglecting taking care of this. In the process I threw away a ton of them that no longer interest me. I'm still in my pjs but that is on my next agenda. R. as just gone to the dentist...a new one. We have had the same great dentist for over 20 years, but now the state of Tennessee is offering dental insurance to all retired state employees. That's me, since I worked for the schools and it is extremely affordable. We couldn't pass this up and I hope this guy is up to our standards. R. needed to go so is going to give me a report before I make a decision. Going out to lunch at Captain D's and then to the gym. ....later....

I Have Nothing

Same old, same old...went to the chiropractor and then ran a few errands. Home now awaiting R. to get here with the groceries. He had quite a list this morning. I'll help put away when he gets here, then lunch and the gym. I'm sore today, but I can't figure from what. I just did my exercises and then into the pool. I hope to resume my routine by next week. Another dreary day although the sun did peek out for a moment while I was on the road. This snow just stays as it is too cold to melt. Lots of rain expected on Friday.....later....

Lots to Read

I ended up getting 8 books at the library. I kept finding books that looked interesting. I started reading Cape Breton Road and will let you know what I think. So far I like it a lot. I was attracted to it because we camped in Nova Scotia and loved the drive up Cape Breton Highlands. Groundhog day and yep, 6 more weeks of winter. Also, Jeff Clark's birthday. He would be 67. I remember the morning he was born. My mother woke me up to tell me Thelma had had a baby boy. I remember the sky that morning...red. RIP Jeff. It's raining here this morning, but we dodged the sleet bullet. Now, back to my book...later....

TV Stuff

We watched 1 hour of the Grammy's and the opening was Lady GaGa and Elton John and that was really good. I love to see what Lady GaGa is wearing, but not a fan of hers other than that. I also saw Pink who was amazing in her acrobatic/water thing. I also like to watch Beyonce although I'm not into her music. At 9 I turned on PBS and watched part 2 of Emma...also good and then at 10 watched The Worst Cooks on the food channel. I just need to say that I would be way too embarrassed to admit I was as stupid as those idiots. People who say they can't cook must not be able to read and lack any imagination. Really, I think it's just an excuse for being to lazy to put the effort into making a meal. That being said...tomato soup and grilled cheese at the Blosser house this evening.....later.....
