Go Reds !!

We actually get to see the game. It's on ESPN. Last night's dinner was very nice. We came home and watched The Good Wife and I cried thugh the first part of it..so mad they killed off Will! Really cold this morning but warming up to 70. I'm going to trim some shrubs and do some other yard work..Made my oriental cabbage salad this morning. It reminds me of spring. I also saw a recipe in the NY Times yesterday that looks yummy. It's a spring soup with lots of green veggies and cheddar cheese dumplings. I'm definitely going to try it....later...

Thirty Years!!!

Lt's hard to believe. I woke up this morning to find a vase of tulips and a card waiting for me. We'll be going to dinner this evening..Bonefish Grill in Knoxville. The sun is shining today after a rainy Saturday. It's chilly but tomorrow and the rest of the week will be in the 70s. I think Thursday is going to be 78. Bring it on!! Last night we watched the movie, Quartet. It was on Showtime and I loved it. It was about retired musicians living in a retirement home in England..many of them had been opera stars. The music throughout the movie was wonderful, the scenery beautiful and such a nice story...Maggie Smith was in it. If you don't like classical music and opera you won't love it like I did. Nothng much else going on..our leaves are FINALLY going to be removed on Tuesday. I also need to do some trimming of shrubs and think I'll tackle that tomorrow....later...

Rainy Day

It rained earlier, but not raining now. More to come, however. Our 30th anniversary is tomorrow and we were going to go out to dinner tonight, but decided on tomorrow so we don't have to battle rain. We'll go in to Knoxville and eat at Bone Fish. Most of our teams have bitten the dust..I'm anxiously awaiting The Good Wife tomorrow. I don't believe they killed off Will!!!Downton Abbey, The Good Wife...why do they kill off such good characters??? I'll be making meat ball subs for dinner...We may watch Wolf of Wallstreet. It's on demand...later....

No Sunshine Yet

I started to post yesterday withoutmuch to say and this damn computer kept dropping off letters. It was doing the same thing the day before when I was trying to send an email. I finally gave up. It seems to be okay this morning. Itained earlier and I think it may be doing that right now. It warmed up nicely. I got a haircut yesterday and did some grocery shopping. I made stir fry beef last night..delicious. I have some left so will have that or lunch or dinner toight. R.has gone to get a shot in his eyeball..I'm going to clean house....later....

Brrrr!

This is the craziest weather! Not much going on here. We'll be heading for the gym after lunch. Not sure why I even started to blog today because I haven't a darn thing to say...later...

Off to Knoxville

We'll be heading to Kville in a bit. First we pick up my car. My driver's side window wouldn't go up but whatever it was was solved easily. They called to say it was fixed shortly after we dropped it off. We'll have lunch in town and g a bunch of wine at the Farragut wine and spirits store..big sale. Right now it's in the 30s but getting colder as the day wears on. We're expecting a hard freeze tonight. Okay, Muir..here's a site you should get to on your Kindle..Good Reads. It will list all of the books you have on it and you can rate them. You can also follow favorite authors. Since you just got your Kindle you won't have many book on it. I have tons and just rated them. The ones I gave a 3 star to just means that it's not great literature..just a fun read. Time for my shower....later....

Happy 14th Birthday, Max!!

I tried to call him on their home phone with no answer and no machine answering and then tried his cell phone with no answer and no voice mail so I sent him a text. I guess that will have to do. I'm assuming he got his gift. Last night we watched basketball on and off and happy about UD winning. We also watched Nebraska and really liked it..funny and sad. Yesterday was a beautiful day and today is the polar opposite! Woke up to rain and it's not raining now but it is much colder and dreary. I guess the next few days will be even colder. I was going to go to the store today to get what I need for dinner, but just don't want to go out so will change my menu and head to the store tomorrow. I made Spanish Rice last which R. loves and we hadn't had for ages. I always made it when we camped. I had plain rice left over so will make fried rice with that, but first need to get a few items for it. Will watch more basketball today...later....

Another Sunny Day

It was supposed to be warm, but cloudy today. Instead the sun is shining brightly and soon I will go to fill the bird feeders. We will continue to feed them as it is nesting season, but as soon as this bird seed is gone the feeders will come down, the fountain put up and soon the humming bird feeders up. The hummers usually appear here around April 15th give or take a few days. My other chores today are to clean out the frig and also the kitchen cupboards. We watched some basketball last night. The Vols play tomorrow. I'm currently reading Brooklyn and like it a lot, but am worried about the end. It better not end in a way that will piss me off! Time to get a move on...later....

March Madness

bed and I did, so when I got up this morning I didn't know the outcome. I was so surprised and happy when I heard the final score. They play UMass next tomorrow. Today I'll be watching Dayton and later Cincy and Harvard. First day of spring and I'm cleaning house. I got some of my spring décor out and even though it isn't going to be super warm, it is sunny. Tomorrow and Saturday should be great..in the 70s....R is going to have an MRI on his back but it isn't scheduled yet. If it's not one thing it's 6 more!!

Late Night TV

I usually dvr any late nite tv we might want to watch. We had dvrd Letterman the other night. Let me weigh in on 3 of them. First of all...David Letterman..way past time for you to hang it up. You are not funny, nothing new and it's kind of pitiful. Jimmy Fallon is okay but I think he has a lot to learn. I'm sure he'll get better. He's not the best interviewer. Jimmy Kimmel...I love, love, love him. I think his monologues are great and I love how he laughs. He doesn't just laugh with his face, but with his whole body. I think he's by far the best! He does a great interview..it seems so natural and comfortable. Now for today..the sun is shining and today is the last day of winter!!! R. is having back issues and is going to the Dr. this afternoon..he can hardly walk and I'm not sure what they will do except give hime muscle relaxants..we'll see. Nothing more to report...later.....

Rain is Over, No Sunshine yet

Went to have blood taken at the lab for my Drs. appointment on Friday. After that I went to Walmart to grocery shop. R. normally does that, but every once in a while I like to go. I want to know why you can't find Fordhook lima beans at several times of the year..just baby limas and I don't like them. They never get done enough no matter how long you cook them. Sunshine is supposed to appear today, but no sign of it yet. I don't have a dern thing to say so will stop now!..

Raining and chilly

Just got back from my eye appointment and it was all good. I have no change since last year so don't need new glasses. I will, however get new sun glasses as my current ones are from an old prescription. Laundry is done and put away and I'll be having lunch soon and then the gym...nothing else to report....later....

Nasty, Cold and Rainy

Definitely a "stay in" day. Brunch is over, the puzzle is mostly finished. R. is working on the last few clues. I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the opthamalogist and it's still supposed to be raining. Talked to Joel and they are expecting 4-6 inches of snow and I think D.C. is also. Watched The Great Gatsby on HBO last night. I started to read the book years ago and didn't care for it and I never saw the other movie except just in parts. I started out not liking this at all but did get more into it. I certainly didn't love it..just okay and R. felt the same. We still need to watch Nebraska and will do that soon. I finished sycamore Row yesterday and really liked it. I'll start a new book today..Brooklyn. It popped up on my Kindle and it looks good...Bax not liking the rain. He went out earlier before it started and then wanted to go out but backed away when he saw the rain. He then went to the other door. I guess he thought it might not be raining on that side of the house so he didn't go out, but then came to me indicating that it was an emergency and he'd just have toignore the elements and go out, which he did and came in soaked....later...

Lazy Saturday

Yesterday turned out to be very productive. We picked up Ben at the airport and he drove the van home..liked it, boght it and headed back to North Carolina. We headed to Knoxville to deposit our %15,000 check in our account and then had lunch at Olive Garden. They have a new menu and we got out of our rut. I had a delicious meatball sandwich and R. had a sausage and pepper sandwich. We both opted for the whole sandwich and both brought half home which we will have today. Nothing is planned for today..just a lazy day hanging out here. It's supposed to get to 70 but so far no sunshine. Tomorrow we're expecting rain and lots of it....later....

Need to go to the airport to pick up the guy who we hope goes home with the VW. R. has gone to get a shot in his eyeball. Took Baxter to the vet yesterday for his allergy shot and we knew he had gained weight so wanted to have that checked. He had gained 15 pounds!!! Dr. Hall has 2 Goldens and he feeds them just 1 cup of food per day. I started out giving Bax 2 cups twice a day, but cut that down to 1 1/2 cups twice a day. Now I have to cut him to 1/2 cup twice a day. Dr. said don't cut him down all at once, so I'll do it gradually. Yesterday afternoon I gave him just 1 cup and he was ready for his food when I got up this morning. I'll do this gradually and give R. the warning not to feed him!!...later....

Winter Today..Spring Back Tomorrow

We actually got a dusting of snow and it was 17 when I got up. Tomorrow 62..this is just plain nuts. I'm off in a bit to take Baxter to the vet for his allergy shot. I may go to the library this afternoon. Tomorrow we have a guy from The Outer Banks flying up to, we hope, purchase the VW van. We'll pick him up at the airport and if he likes it he'll head back to NC. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Not much else going on. Muir..look for cheap deals on books. I recently bough two books for 1.99 each and they were good. I also got Sycamore Row which is really good and it was 6.99 plus tax. Glad you like your new toy!....later....

Winter Reappears

Not yet but sometime this evening temps will fall and we'll have a cold night and Thursday will be cold before temps rise again. Early spring is such a flirt..I'm here, now I'm gone.....I'm off soon to the chiropractor and then some errands before my appointment with physical therapist. Loved seeing pictures of Eva at the zoo...later....

Sorry...

I did post yesterday, but maybe I didn't hit Publish. You didn't miss a thing because I had nothing really to say. It's pretty much the same today. I am loving this weather. Spring is really trying to get a hold here, but winter doesn't want to leave. We're supposed to get a bit of rain tonight and then colder tomorrow and the next few days. I know everyone is so anxious for spring. Not much going on here today. I have this and that to attend to and hope to get in some reading. I'm reading John Grisham's latest book...Sycamore Row. It is really good and hard to put down. Tomorrow I have my first session with the physical therapist. Since the office is next door to our gym, he will take me over there and show be what needs to be done to strengthen my knees...later.....

We've Been Busy

We did go to the movies on Thursday and to lunch. American Hustle was okay..we liked it okay, but didn't love it. It seemed longer than it actually was and was, at times, confusing. Yesterday we were busy getting the van glammed up. We washed it and cleaned inside. It looks good. People from NC came to see it, but she wants something she can take all over the country. She is a photo=journalist and has had VW campers on and off and loves them, but she needs something newer. The weather was beautiful yesterday and is, as well, today with more coming tomorrow. I went to the Dr. on Friday about my knees and he is sending me to the physical therapist who is right next to our gym. He is going to show me some exercises that I can do to strengthen by upper legs and take pressure off my knee caps. He said I was, in no way ready for anything dire..such as a replacement. I knew that but he also thinks I'll react well to this therapy and will not need anything such as shots, etc. any time soon. I'll see this guy just twice and he'll take me to the gym and get me started. After we cleaned out all of our stuff from the van we have two laundry baskets full of stuff I have to deal with. A lot of it will be going to Salvation Army and I'm going to go down to the basement and separate that in just a bit. ...later....

Off to Knoxville...

We have to stop at Trader Joe's and then Sam's before having lunch and then we'll see American Hustle. Not sure if we'll have time for any other stops. I do need to get birthday cards for Max and Hayden, but may not do that today. Weather was very nice yesterday with more of the same today...upper 50s. All next week looks like the 60s,,,bring it on!!

Making Headway on my Project

But I can't talk about it at this point. Nothing much going on here. R. put the VW van for sale on Craig's list and has had 3 responses. As much as we need to sell it, I got emotional about it because we have had so many wonderful, fun trips in it throughout with happy and funny memories. We camped in Canada and up and down the east coast and as far west as Minnesota. Our last trip in it was just here in Tennessee two springs ago. We left early on that trip due to rain. Oh well..live goes on and we just can't do what we once did. R. has just gone to the Retinologist with, what we hope, will be his last shot in the eye. To the gym this afternoon...later....

Spring! Where are You?

I just want some warmth and sunshine and yes, I know.  Most people have it much worse than we have had it, but still.....Working today on a project that I'll talk about later. Other than that not much going on here. Maybe a movie later this week. Not sure what we'll see. We haven't seen American Hustle or Philomena. We also wanted to see Labor Day and it's still around..we'll see....later....

Oscars..Red carpet

Okay..I don't much agree with Muir...First of all I liked most of the dresses with bling.  I love Kristin Chenowith's gold dress, Kate Hudson's was one of the best.  I liked Kate Blanchet's dress, but not on her.  If it had been another color or on someone with darker skin and hair it would have been perfect.  I just don't think blonde, pale people should where pale colors.  I love Jennifer Lawrence's dress and I didn't really see many losers dresses.  I don't know why so many people choose black.  Sandra Bullocks dress was nice, but it was black.  Sally Fields had a dress that made her look so dowdy and Glenn Close had a witchy dress.  I did like Amy Adams' dress..I think it was navy.  It had such a nice style. We stayed up till the end.  I was pleased with all of the winners...What was with Liza Minelli?  I thought Ellen was great, although doing the pizza thing did prolong everything.  On weather matters..we have rain and it just started to sleet.  I guess we'll stay in today....later......

Brunch..Weather..Oscars

On Sunday I always make brunch and try to mix it up a bit.  Today I made these toast cups with eggs and bacon, etc.  I removed crusts from slice of whole wheat breat and flattened them and put them in muffin tins and toasted for 10 minutes at 425.  Then I filled with mixture of eggs/milks/bacon pieces I had fried/onion bits and topped with cheese and baked for 15 minutes at 350.  They were good and different.  I also made home fries.  Okay..now to weather.  As of now we are likely to get just rain after midnight, but further west and north will get freezing rain.  It's possible for us to get a bit of that as well.  At any rate we won't be going anywhere.  I'm really looking forward to the Oscars.  I especially love to watch the red carpet so will be doing that.  Last night we watched Dallas buyers Club.  At first I didn't really like the movie, but then I got into it and the acting was great.  I'm pulling for Matthew M...however you spell his name.  The character who played Rayon was really good as well.  It's supposed to get to 70 here today but cloudy..no sunshine.  That's it for me...Keep warm and safe if you're in the snow zone!!...later...

Nice, Warm Weekend

While we should be sitting pretty, I'm worried about my northern friends and family.  Ohio is supposed to get slammed, once again.  Also Virginia and Detroit.  I know how sick of this weather they are.  We really have nothing to complain about.  As for today..just a bit of this and that.  I think I'll go to the store for a few things.  Tonight we plan to watch a movie on Demand..probably Dallas Buyers Club.  I'm all psyched up for the Oscars tomorrow.  Can't wait for the red carpet.  Hope my peeps keep me posted on their weather....later....
