Poor Cheyenne

Cheyenne has become more incontinent at night. I have a plastic sheet on the couch covered by a towel and then the white sheet you see. Lately she has been peeing every night. Sometimes it is just damp, but the last 2 nights it was really wet and when I got up she was lying in it. She also hasn't been eating as well, but still she seems peppy. I want to give her a bath today. We'll see how that goes. She's almost 18, so what can I expect.
I just made the butternut squash filling for the tortellinis. The filling tastes yummy. We'll see how we like it tonight.
We'll just watch some golf, etc. today. I finished my book "The Independence of Mary Bennet". I really loved it! The first chapters were a bit slow but after that it was a "Can't put this book down" read. I'll start Scarpetta as soon as I shower and dress. Later..........

Misspellings

I just noticed yesterday's title...sorry about that. Today I cleaned the great room and kitchen and then showered and got ready to run errands. I first got gas, then went to Kroger's to get some things for Super Day Sunday. Again, I'm making a bunch of different snacks throughout the day. I'll be making Anne's layered bean/avocado/sour cream/cheese dip, caramelized onions and cheese over a tostino, mushrooms stuffed with spinach, nuts, fruit and a croisant pannini with gouda, salami and arugula. I then picked up Scarpetta at the library and lastly picked up meds for Mr. Wolfman. Now I'm home and ready to settle in and read. I'm loving my Coleen McClough book. I should finish it this afternoon and then I'll start Scarpetta.
I'll have to call Muir later...I had a dream about her but it's too involved to bore anyone else with. I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl just because it's the super Bowl, but I hate the Steelers and I know they'll win...oh well....later..........

Sundancd

I hope you all get the Sundance channel and that you take advantage of the programs. One of our favorites is the Elvis Costello show on Wednesday evenings at 9. He has great musical guests with conversation as well as performance. Last night he had Renee Fleming, Rufus Wainwright, Anna Mcgorical (sp) Bill Frisell, etc. It was really great! Renee sang an aria from Tosca, but she also did a jazz tune and a folk tune with Rufus and Anna and Bill. She is just amazing. Next week another great show.
Nothing much going on today. Richard is going grocery shopping and I'll do cleanup around here. I'm loving my book and as I knew would happen, the library called me yesterday to tell me Scarpetta is in. This after I just was at the library the day before and checked out 7 books. It's either feast or famine around here!
We ended up not going to Richard's. He called to say he wasn't feeling well. Later......

I'm Warm

We got a load of oil yesterday, so we're warm and toasty again. And then...we woke up this morning to an outside temperature of 61...yes 61! It is balmy out and windy. However, it is going to be in the 40s by noon with a lot of rain. No snow for us...maybe some in the mountains.
I just made my energy bars. I don't like to be without them and I haven't had any in awhile. I have the recipe if you want it. They are really yummy and healthy!
I'm doing bed laundry and then I hope to settle down to do some serious reading. We're going over to Richard's for dinner tonight. He's going to call in Chinese. We bought him a painting and I came across a picture of his mom as a little girl and I framed that for him.
Hope you all keep warm and safe inside you house and not on the road!! Later.......

It's Always Something!

So.today I got up and prepared to shower, but first I turned up the thermostat as I always do first thing in the a.m. Guess what?!? No heat. Fortunately, it wasn't all that cold. The temp outside was 45. I showered and got ready to go to breakfast with Chuck. Richard was sure we weren't out of oil. Anyway, it's a miserable day...raining very hard, but it's warm enough not to freeze and is actually going up to 57 today. We had a nice breakfast and from there I went to the library where I was so excited. There were so many book on my list that were actually in and I also found 4 others. I'm loaded down with reading material now and I'll be a bookworm for the next week if I can manage. From the library I went to Hobby Lobby where I picked up some picture frames and a few other items and then back home where we still have no heat. Richard is on the phone, so I don't know what the story is. I have to go out again at 1 for my bone density test. I hope this heat thing will get resolved because it's supposed to turn cold tomorrow.
I haven't heard from Cincinnati, so I don't know if they have school or not, but the weather up there looks like they are getting an ice storm. I hope they are all safely tucked away in their houses! Later.....

Fabulous Movie

A must see..Slumdog Millionaire was everything I hoped it would be. The acting, the flashbacks, the cinematography, everything was great. We loved it! Got home shortly after 4 and watched some golf and later 60 minutes which was depressing except for the pill that will change our lives...hope it comes out in time for us!
A must see today is Muir's blog. That sweet J.J. is so adorable. I think he looks like susan in those pictures. I can't wait to see and hold him again.
A dreary day here. Tomorrow we're getting more rain and no sleet...I hope. That is supposed to be north of us. I have a breakfast date at 8 a.m. tomorrow with Chuck..my teaching assistant. We get together every January for breakfast and to catch up. Later.....

Chadwicks

I got the newest catalog from Chadwick's yesterday and this is for you girls who work or go out and about. They have some really cute things from dresses and tops to some really cute shoes. Anne, I'll save this for you and if you don't get the catalog you can get on line!!

Off to the Movies

We're going to Knoxville to see Slumdog. I can't wait. We'll probably eat at Olive Garden afterwards and then stop at Krogers on the way home for a few things. That will be our day.
It's sunny here but cold...in the teens this a.m. but up in the 40s later. ...............

The Weekend

I'm not sure what this weekend will be like. We thought of going to see Slumdog Millionaire in Knoxville today, but a guy is coming to work on the house. I hope we'll get to the movies tomorrow. There are so many movies I want to see.
Yesterday was so nice..61 and I took Wolfie for a walk...the first in a long time. Today it's raining and cooler. The rain is supposed to end soon. I'm making fondue for dinner. I haven't done that in a long time. Later.....

Good Days/Bad Days

Yesterday was a good day after some not so good ones this week. I had been dealing with my toe and it is getting much better. Richard was able to get the old, dead battery out of the car and got a new one. The old one was still under warranty and ended up costing only $17. and that was with a few other items he bought. I got rid of the doll house. A lady from a church came and loved it. They are going to finish it and auction it off for a charity project they are doing. Lastly, Thursday is my favorite TV night. After the news and Jeopardy Bones was on followed by The Office and 30 Rock. I hope today is as good!
I'm going to fix one of my favorites for dinner...polenta and black bean casserole. I make it a few times a year and we really like it. I think I have given out this recipe, but if anyone wants it let me know. It is an old recipe from Cooking Light. Last year Aunt Muir asked me to send her a few of my favorite recipes. (In the old days we exchanged recipes a lot). This was one I sent her, but I never heard if she made it or liked it.
Another thing I'm looking forward to today is the temperature....60!!Yahoo!! Later

Frustration!!

I posted late today because I had an 8 o'clock appointment for my yearly physical and then I was off to Walmart. I wrote a whole long post and it got erased when I went to spellcheck. So...the abbreviated version of what I had to say was...we still have car issues...the battery(we hope that is all it is) is dead and won't be started with a jump though we tried. Richard is going to attend to that. I'll get tuna rollups ready for dinner and just fool around here.....Later

Cobntroversy

Wow! We're all deserving of our opinions and I, for one, am so happy the hopeful about the new administration. If John McCain had won I would not be as hopeful, but I would have been supportive and adopted a positive attitude. I don't see where negativity gets anyone anywhere except to drag you down along with those around you. That being said, it's a new day and we have a dead battery and need to take care of that. It's also very cold but by Friday it is going to be near 60. School is out here again today...the snow is still here, but the roads are clear..probably not in the mountains. Have a good day everyone.....later

Hail To Our Chief!

I am so proud and excited about the inauguration of our new President. It was a very moving speech and I hope our country/people will rise to the occasion and do what needs to be done to get our country back on track. Our celebration of this day continues. It started this morning with Eggs Benedict. At noon we had biscuits baked with cream cheese and green pepper jelly. Later this afternoon I will make oven baked potato chips with a blue cheese dip and later still we will have roasted shrimp with coctail sauce and finally egg rolls. I haven't been able to be far from the TV. I'll be here most of the day and evening. God Bless America and God Bless our President and his family!!!!
These pictures are of out little snowfall. It is so pretty and because it is so cold, it is sticking. Every time cheyenne comes in she has ice to bite out of her paws. That doesn't seem to be a problem for wolfie.
My parting words to my readers is to step up to the plate and help our country recover in whatever way you can do. I hope to do my part. Love....Mom

It's Snowing!

I went to bed early last night since I had to get up at 5. I didn't sleep well, so I am really tired today. Richard's procedure went well and we were out of there by 8 and we stopped at Perkins for breakfast. It's really snowing here..just started and it's coming down pretty hard. I just want to stay in and relax. I'm doing laundry, but mostly I'll just read and watch the snow. I hope we get a little bit of accumulation. You may think I'm crazy, but we rarely get snow and if you have no place to go, it's nice. Later..........

Nothing to Report....

I truly have not a thing to say. Richard just left for Walmart to pick up a few things. We have his appointment tomorrow morning very early so it's early to bed tonight. I guess we'll watch the football game today and I will be forced to root for the Ravens although they are just the lesser of 2 evils. Later.........

Ouch!!

So last week I finally went to the Drs. when my poor toe wasn't getting better. She put me on antibiotics and I was to soak my foot in Hot water twice a day and come back for further treatment the following week which I did yesterday. She put a shot of Novocain in my toe and then trimmed skin and nail...I felt nothing..even the shot wasn't bad. By the time I got home the Novocain was wearing off and my toe was throbbing. I took a pain pill then and another at bedtime. Wow, this morning it really hurt! I took a pain pill and it took a while to take effect. Anyway, it hurts, but I know it will go away. So today I'm just reading, etc. I wanted to go to Pet Smart and Ross to look for new rugs and towels for my bathroom. That can wait. Richard goes for his second back treatment on Monday morning at 6:30! Busy week coming up...later

Schools Closed

Most schools here are closed due to the cold weather. It's a great day to stay in, but I have an appointment at 2 and Richard has one in Knoxville at 11. While I'm out I have to stop at the vets for Wolfie's meds, stop at the grocery store and get a haircut. I think I'll get sushi for dinner tonight. Nothing else going on...trying to keep crazy Cheyenne in. This morning she picked up Wolfie's chewy and wanted out to bury it. I took it from her, but she still wanted out. I finally let her out and she laid down in the front yard. I had to go out and haul her in. I don't think she knows what she's doing. Richard just let her out which is okay, but we'll have to get her back in soon otherwise she'll just stay there. However, she came in early yesterday afternoon and jumped up on the couch to snuggle in.
Madison and Max are off school today...I don't know if Anne stayed home or not.....later

Yes, Cold Here As Well

It's cold but only in the 20s today. Tomorrow morning it is supposed to be 7. As long as my doggies are in I don't care. Today I'm in all day. I have nothing planned. Tomorrow I have an afternoon Drs. appointment and I may get a haircut and do some grocery shopping for the weekend.
If you get a chance check the Sundance channel on Wednesday at 9: Elvis Costello has a show and he interviews different musicians. Last night was Rufus Wainwright and it was a really good show. Next week he has Norah Jones and several others although I don't remember the others.
Snuggle up and keep warm!.....later

Happy Birthday Susan

Today is Susan's birthday...hope you have a stress-free and happy one. We are SOOO glad you are in our family!
Not much going on here. Richard had an echocardiogram this morning as part of his yearly physical and my physical is in a week so I went along and had my lab work done. It was very cold this morning! When I got home I started the next pot of onion soup. I know I had it 2 weeks ago, but Richard bought so many onions and anyway we love it. I'm trying to decided what to have on inauguration Tuesday. I may just do several types of appetizers throughout the day. Later........

Errand Day

I'm off to Walmart soon. I have some perscricptions to pick up and then I'll do some grocery shopping. Yes, I know. That is Richard's chore, but sometimes I actually want to do it.
I'm getting excited about the inauguration. I'm planning a whole day of celebration for next Tuesday. We'll start off the morning with eggs Benedict and continue with good food, etc throughout the day. Nothing much else to report....later

A New Week

I'm hopeful that this week will be productive. My laundry is finished and the repair guy is supposed to finally get her and proceed with his work on the house.
It's a sunny day here and this should continue for several days. Wednesday is supposed to be our warmest this week and I'm going to try to walk Wolfie. The cold returns on Thursday.
I watched all of the Golden Globes last night. I couldn't get over how many one-shouldered dresses I saw. All in all I loved most of them. Renee Z's dress made her look like something from "The Munsters". I can't wait to see Slumdog Millionaire. I guess I also want to see Revolutionary Road.
I'm continuing to read Breaking Dawn. I can't get my head around how to pronounce Renesmee. Anyone have an idea? Later.....

Fun Evening

Aren't we exciting hosts! We did have a good time and it was great seeing them. Tess had been at dance all afternoon and was tired and starved when they got here. Benjamin was fine, but by 10:30 he was tired of watching his movie and playing with the army men. Bob was on the couch with Tess, but she kind of took up too much space so he moved to the floor and Benjamin got on his back. Heather was driving home and she threatened to leave them here and pick them up today. She was the life of the party. Anyway it was a good meal with good friends.
Nothing much going on today. We need to get to the basement, but I'm not really motivated. We'll see.....later

An Extra Lucky Year!

We had pork and sauerkraut last week on New Year's Day and guess what? We are having it again this evening so we should have extra good luck this year. Bob, Heather and kids are coming over and I had invited them for earlier, but they didn't respond. They called last week after we had already had our feast and asked when we wanted them. Hence we're doing it over again. I'm making an apple tatin for dessert. Today..just cleaning up and cooking. I got a new slip cover for the couch. I think I'm going to like it, but it is a bear to put on. Right now I have it half-way on and am waiting for Richard to help me. More rain today....A must see...Gran Torino! We loved it! What's not to love about Clint Eastwood?

Friday, January 9, 2009

Off to Knoxville

We're going in to H.H. Gregg to get a new tuner and while we're there we'll go see GranTorino with Clint Eastwood and eat lunch. It's actually sunny today, but more rain tomorrow!
I put Scarpetta on hold at the library when I was there on Wednesday. I hope it becomes available soon. Right now I'm about half way through Breaking Dawn. Not much more to report...later...

Delicious!

The onion soup was great! I put 6 cups of onions in it even though Julia said 5. We both thought we should have more. I'm going to make it again next week. Richard bought 2 bags of onions so I have plenty and I have some of the broth with some onions left in it and I'll just add to that. Tonight I'm making chili.
Yesterday afternoon we decided it was time to put the Christmas stuff away that goes under the steps in that closet. First we wanted to pull everything out of there and get rid of some things. I need to get rid of the doll house that I bought for Anne many years ago. It is huge and just taking up space. We found all sorts of things in there that the mice had had their way with. We had boxes of pictures, letters and all sorts of records from the restaurant. I have two boxes of things to go through and ditch as does Richard. I'm going to try and give the doll house away to some crafts person. Anyway, the Christmas decor still is in the garage and we have to deal with that.
Bob, Heather and kids are coming over on Saturday for pork and sauerkraut. Later....

Now we Have Flooding

It rained hard all day yesterday and all night. It didn't stop and the dogs went out in the pouring down rain. I woke up this morning and it was still raining. It did stop for awhile and they went out and then it started again. Right now it is very windy. There was no school around her today due to flooding. Richard was going to go over o Richard's this morning but the road was closed. Wolfie seems depressed and I know it is because he can't get out and ...oh my..Wolfie's friend Hound Dog just went by and Wolfie saw him so I let him out. He's happy now...he's humping Hound Dog and they both seem happy. I guess the depression is over!
I made onion soup this morning...I can't wait for dinner...I love it! I used Julia Child's recipe.
I also watched Dr. Oz yesterday...we pretty much do all of that. Muir..do you take vitamin D3? It's important to take.
Anne called yesterday and the kids are off for 4 days around President's Day and they are planning on coming down. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather... Later....

The drought is over

Poor, poor doggies. They did go out for a bit yesterday, but it rained all night and Wolfie has not been out yet. Cheyenne went out for a bit. There is a lull in the rain for now but it is supposed to kick up soon and really come down. I need to get out and get back before it gets too bad. I want to go to the library and I have to pick up meds for wolfie. Richard is off to the grocery store. Wolfie is acting funny...maybe he is just depressed from the rain...I hope nothing more serious. Later...

Holiday Time is Over

Carol and Eric came last night and we had fun although things got a bit hot when we started talking politics. It was Richard, Carol and I against Eric. Several times I said to stop, but Eric kept at it. Anyway it was good seeing them. We stayed up way to late and drank too much. We had to get up at 6 this morning to get to Knoxville for Richard's procedure. Neither one of us felt too well. Anyway all went well and after it was over we went to Sam's and then to breakfast. Now we're home just relaxing. If I were a napper, this would be the day to take one. Once again it is dreary. Later.....

The Sun

I'm so happy to see the sun and it's going to be in the 60s today. I love the new couch and the pictures of J.J. and Mollie are great! You all need to register for the HGTV house!
Our friend Carol just called. Eric is in town and they'll be over this evening. I just put a big pot of vegetable soup on so I can actually feed them as well. Richard has his first procedure on his back tomorrow morning. I hope it is successful! Later.......

Another Dismal Day

Most of Christmas is put away except for outside. I have to rearrange the storage closet and Richard has to vacuum after taking down the outside wreath and lights. No plans other than that. I might make vegetable soup either today or tomorrow.
I hope Muir will take a picture of Trip and Susan's new couch. Later........

Take Down/Put Away day

I started this morning before Richard was up. First to be put back in their little boxes were my collection of 20 Santas. Next I put everything on the dining room table where it all sets now. I have the storage crates up and will start that soon. The tree will go last and then there is the outside to deal with and it's a rainy, cold day. If it doesn't stop raining that may have to wait until tomorrow.
Maggie, I hope you saw the English Bull Dogs skateboarding on their float at the Rose Parade. It was too cute!
Even though Penn State go creamed, Va. Tech won. I was really surprised. I thought Cincy was a much stronger team, but they didn't show it last night. Sorry Cincy fans. I would definitely have rooted for them if they had played any other team.
Back to my undecorating.......

Happy New Year

Not much going on around here. We stayed up until the ball dropped and we didn't get up until after 7 this morning. We both are feeling a bit shaky after last night's indulgences. Later I'll get the pork and sauerkraut in the oven and settle down to watch some football. I'm sorry, I love Cincinnati but I have to root for Va. Tech. I'm sure you understand.
