Lots of Football

  Went back and forth between 3 games yesterday. West Virginia and Alabama, Clemson and Georgia and Auburn and Arkansas. Auburn was my only winner but I think Clemson will be okay. They need to work on passing and receiving. I was happy W VU did as well as they did against Alabama. Vs Tech also won but we didn't get the game. This evening we'll be watching  The Vols! So hoping they pull off a win!!....later

Latest Book

  I have read a lot of Mary Alice Monroe lately and really enjoy them all. She writes a lot about the low country of South Carolina but the one I just finished,Time is a River may be my favorite. Most of her books deal with the environment and are factual without being preachy or dry. I highly recommend her. About to go out to lunch at Chilies then home to watch some football....l

It's Friday

  BIG weekend in East Tennessee!  High school football tonight and all kinds of events in Knoxville. Saturday is Booms Day..biggest fireworks in the south and Sunday the Vols opening game. They play Utah State which isn't an easy game. They have a great quarter back. I finally got a Vols t shirt but couldn't bring myself to get that day globes orange and got a pink one instead. I need to order a Clemson shirt and a Moeller high one as well. That along with my Auburn,Va Tech, Ohio State and Bengals one should put me in good shape for football season. Have a fun weekend..so glad football is back!!.....later

Not Much to Say

  I hate posting when I have nothing to say. That would be today. I need to get moving here shortly. Yesterday evening as I was getting dinner I looked at my kitchen window with the sun shining in and OMG..I need to get to that pronto. I also need to come up with something for dinner. Time for Baxter

  I'll be heading out soon to walk Baxter before it gets too hot. Other than that no real plans except to the gym after lunch. Trip to the library was successful and I'm reading another Mary Alice Monroe..Time is a River. She is currently one of my favorite authors. I'm watching the battle of the hummingbirds this morning. It's so funny how territorial they are. Time to get ready for our walk.

Errands

  Both of us will be heading out this morning but on different paths. I will start at the library and to the post office from there, Walgreens and finally Kroger s. RICHARD has an appointment this morning to get rooster comb gel shot into his knees. Keeping fingers crossed that this is effective! Nothing much else planned. Time to get myself together..

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

  I can't believe sweet Muir called me out, but I'll do it this afternoon. I have to dig up an appropriate bucket..not like the Sweeny one Anne used. I'm hoping Richard will be able to manage the picture. Another hot day here. The usual Monday..laundry and such. It was a quiet weekend...later

To the Mountain

  The trip to Metcalf Bottoms wasn't as fun as I hoped. We stopped on way up to pick up subs for our lunch. I forgot about schools being in session which turned out to be a good thing..no kids. Our favorite spot was open with no one around. We ate first but Richard said, "Take Baxter's leach off. He won't go anywhere." Famous last words. He took off and totally ignored our commands to come or stay. I finally caught up with him and we ate while holding on to his leach. Then I took purchasers to the water and put them in, went back and got Baxter. He walked around in the water but then seemed ready to get out. We sat in our chairs for a bit but Baxter was unsettled. I walked him around again but he was over it and I was as well. I dried him off and put him in the car with the Windows halfway down and started gathering everything up. RICHARD came up and helped getting things together. We looked up and there strolled Baxter!  How he got out of that window was a surprise. It had to be a desperate tight squeeze! I put him back in, closed the Windows and started the car. We took off and I was ready to head home but Richard wanted to go home via Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It was a too long drive and Baxter was restless. Home at last and a less than fun trip for Bax. We had several storms last evening but no damage here...later

Lap Top Trouble

  Our lap top has been giving us trouble for a long time. I have quit using it because it is so frustrating. I stick to my tablet. R took it to Staples yesterday and it was loaded with viruses. It would cost 200. For them to remove them. He brought it home and got online for help. It took all evening oh scans,etc. It isn't much better so looks like time for a new lap top. We are going to take Baxter to the country today. Time for me to get my act together....later

My Sweetie's Birthday

  I offered to make h the meal of his choice but he opted to go out for lunch. We went to Olive Garden and then saw the Woody Allen movie..Magic in the Moonlight. It was a light, fun movie with Colin Forth and Emma Stone. We really enjoyed it. We stopped at Public on the way home and I got scallops to make for him tomorrow. It is so nice to be home..felt like I had been gone for ages..Boston to a wedding, Uniontown for a funeral and then on to Cincinnati. Madison is all checked in and settled at Clemson. MAX has his first day at Moeller tomorrow. New start for both of them. Tomorrow I do laundry and defrost my basement freezer. The lovely, cool weather is over. Raining here but heat and humidity back....later

Back Home.

  Got up this morning before 6,showered and went to Mac Donalds to get breakfast for Max.  He ate and went back to bed. I finished packing and took off at 7:30. I was home by noon. Richard and I have I working on the NY Times puzzle since then. I got a text from Anne around 1 and they were in Tennessee so should be home around five. She said they all cried when they said goodbye. I think this will be a long week for her...My heart goes out to her but she'll get through it. Tomorrow is Richard's birthday. Not sure yet what we'll do....later

Brrr

 Got up at 6 to make breakfast for my boy. It was really cold!! Mac's ride came shortly after 7 and he is off to Columbus for his scrimmage game. I'll clean up around here and shower shortly. Just enjoying this nice morning. I'll be leaving for home tomorrow morning but I'll miss Max. I'm glad I had the time to spend with him. He's sweet boy!....later

Sorry,I Forgot

  Totally forgot until just now. Anne's alarm went off at 5, but I shut it off and was able to go back to sleep. Got up at ate, showered, had coffee and went to Wal-Mart to get stuff for breakfast. What a glorious morning!! It was 48 here. Max got up around 10 and I made us bacon,  biscuits and cinnamon buns. His ride picked him up shortly after 1. Hello be home after 7. Tomorrow he has a scrimmage game and will be picked up at 7. I'll pick him up. Muir and Jim will come over for pizza. I'm reading a good book and have made a lot of headway today. Madison got moved in yesterday and has orientation today. I'm anxious to hear all about it. She knows she'll be taking intro to biology and chemistry as well as calculus..yuck!.....later

In Cincinnati

  I'm here in Cincinnati while Anne takes Madison to Clemson. They had two cars loaded with her gear. College has gotten a LOT more complicated than when I set off in 1956! Max has orientation stuff going on this week for his freshman year at Moeller. I plan to do some cleaning up around here today...Beautiful weather here......later

I'm Back

  We got back about 9 last night. We just had the best time at the wedding!! It was a beautiful wedding held in Concord, Mass. Lots of historical places around there. The reception was at the Mass. Horticulture Society and a perfect setting. It was so much fun seeing and spending time with family. Doing laundry and getting ready to head to Cincinnati tomorrow....later

Memories of Mario Roso

  Mario died yesterday of congestive heart failure and other complications. Numerous memories have been posted on Facebook. His funeral will be on Monday and we will get off the plane from Boston, drive home and take off asap and head to Uniontown. We knew when we were up there in May that it wouldn't be long before we would be there again. I feel so sorry for Gina. Losing a parent is so hard, but to lose them both in such a short time is so sad.Today i.e. have tons to do so I'd better get cracking....later

More Errands

  I'll be off to get a haircut later and then a stop at Wal-Mart. At home I have some ironing to do and the gym after lunch. Yesterday I hit the jackpot at the library. I ended up with 5 books which I won't be able to finish in 3 weeks but can always renew. I found a new Anne Perry in the new book section. That will give me something to do when I'm in Cincy.....later

Errands

  BAXTER has his yearly appointment with his vet this morning and after lunch I'll hit the library. I've mostly been reading from my kindle but need to get some books to hold. I'm currently reading The Girls of August. Anne River Siddon's newest book. It felt good to get back to the gym yesterday. It had been awhile what with traveling and pure laziness.....later

Laundry and Other Chores.

Laundry is well under way. I tried on everything for the wedding this weekend to make sure everythi
ng was okay so that's taken care of. I need to run to town sometime today to do a few things. Nice morning so far..cool. Gina 's dad had a heart attack yesterday and not doing well so we'll be watching that. I'm also praying hard for a little baby in Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Life can be so fleeting....later

Lazy Sunday So Far

  Brunch is over, papers are read and puzzle is mostly done. Richard finishing it now. No big plans for the day. I'm making a version of cabbage tools that I saw on Facebook. I'll brown ground beef, onions and garlic, add a can of stewed tomatoes and then cut up cabbage. Just a simpler version. The heat is back but ok so far....later

Off to Knoxville

  First we'll go to Sam's and then to lunch at Longhorn Steak House. No other plans. It's cloudy here and we had rain overnight but none really expected today. Hayden stopped in yesterday and 2 of the dogs visited but no one stayed at their house last night so I guess they're gone. They still have stuff around. The swing set is still there and their riding mower is in the front yard. Baxter goes to their back yard and barks at the door for the dogs to come out. It is so sad!.....later

Still Nice.

  Now I'm pissed..just was ready to publish and lost the whole thing..argh!! Anyway w loved the squash tart but made a few changes..put in mushrooms and topped with parmesan instead of more blue cheese. More house cleaning today and a trip to Knoxville and Sam's tomorrow along with lunch. Next week at this time we'll be on our way to Boston for Nicolas' wedding....later
